Business in the beginning of the 21-st century faces very turbulent times as the developments on the debt-crises have threatened the European market. These turbulent times are characterized by doubts on financial markets, the rising of state taxes and inflation, which turns also in difficulties for small and medium sized enterprises. Especially the group of small and medium sized enterprises, which cannot benefit from economies of scale and scope and other advantages, are threatened the most. It requires special alertness in spotting ideas and to combine resources to overcome this entrepreneurial disaster crossing Europe. Especially for small export-oriented countries like Slovakia, which depends on foreign trade, must handle this situations very patient and carefully in order to protect their own small and medium sized enterprises and thus its employment rate. [ ] Accordingly this thesis represents a complex view about portfolio entrepreneurs with special focus on a region of the Slovak Republic, which is the country of analysis. It delivers new insights about the personality and abilities, capabilities, skills and traits of portfolio entrepreneurs. Thus delivers a special significance for the development of portfolio entrepreneurship, which is derived from the entrepreneurship research. Furthermore this diploma thesis represents a kind of forerunner in this research area for the Slovak Republic as no comparable research done on this theme could be researched during the conducting of the analysis. The reader will have the chance to find out valuable information about the state of the art literature contributed by other authors in the theoretical part of this thesis. This literature research has been developed from English speaking literature and is notified at the end of the diploma thesis, what makes it affordable for subsequent studies. Chapter 4, Empirical Part:The power of information plays the most significant role since the Gutenberg invention of mechanized book printing machine in around 1397-1468. The subsequent upgrading of this invention of mass book printing made it affordable to spread knowledge than newer before in the human kind history.198 Thus information thanks to continuous reassessing of resources, capabilities, know-how and innovation made it possible to offer still broader range of information via the internet wherever at the world and to anybody. These suggestions approve the Schumpeterian creative destruction theory, being explained above. Obviously the biggest library and so the biggest warehouse of information is not anymore found in any brick house library. However, the society has developed and emerged into knowledge and information based social establishments, depending on those.
This philosophy in the context of business research has revealed a range of research disciplines. This diploma thesis specific agenda is portfolio entrepreneurship, which as has been shown, did not experience thorough analysis in the research community yet. According to Kumar (2008) research can be depicted as intensive and purposeful search for knowledge and better understanding of social and physical phenomena. Furthermore it represents a scientific activity with the purpose to establish a statement; fact, theory, principle or application. It refers to search for knowledge in a scientific and systematic manner. It is a process of moving from known to unknown.
The author of this thesis agrees to the following definition of research and the analysis as well as the interpretation of this study results will be presented according to this philosophy. Chapter 4.1, Research methodology:
Thus the expected empirical results will set the ground of portfolio entrepreneurship phenomenon in Slovakia and offer very sensitive information s about who are considered as portfolio entrepreneurs, which entrepreneurial record according to traits and behaviours they represent. Furthermore the motivations to become such kind of entrepreneur and the chosen joined management style will be analysed and the results, thanks to descriptive analysis design commented. For this purpose, in cooperation with the academic Institute of Entrepreneurial Founding and Development at the JKU Linz, the qualitative research design, as the appropriate methodology for this study has been chosen. This qualitative research will be carried out by in depth interview with 10 portfolio entrepreneurs in very distinctive branches with special concentration on their past, presence as well as future strengths weaknesses possibilities and threats according to their businesses. Such kind of analysis will cover the whole theoretical framework [ ]. These specially suited questions, developed on the basis of state of the art literature deal with issues faced whilst their portfolio entrepreneurship record. For a better understanding the following paragraph deals the distinctive understanding of the qualitative and quantitative research approach, as used in this study.
