Parallel coordinates is one of the leading methodologies for multidimensional visualization. Starting from geometric foundations, how do multi-dimensional lines, planes, curves, surfaces, and other higher-dimensional objects look in parallel coordinates? This text will explain how n-dimensional lines and planes can be represented in 2D through parallel coordinates. Topics include the visualization of multidimensional lines, minimum distances, planes, hyperplanes, clusters of "near" planes, proximities, multidimensional transformations, curves, surfaces, hypersurfaces, convexity, and interior-point construction algorithms. The last chapter explains in a non-technical way the technique's application to visual and automatic data mining with principles, guidelines, strategies and algorithms illustrated in detail on real high-dimensional datasets.
